Clive House
ক্লাইভ হাউস
Also known as Dum Dum House.
One of the oldest buildings around Kolkata, on a mound in Dum Dum.
About Clive House
This thick-walled house stands on a mound at Rastraguru Avenue. Its origins are uncertain: it may have begun as a Dutch or Portuguese building, or an older local structure, before Robert Clive took it as a country house after 1757. Excavations of the mound by the Archaeological Survey found traces of settlement going back two thousand years. It is a protected monument; families who had lived in it for decades have been resettled and the building partly restored.
