A royal town famous for two sweets.
About Bardhaman
The seat of the Bardhaman Raj, one of the richest estates of Bengal. The Curzon Gate of 1903 marks the centre of town; the palace now houses the university. At Nawabhat on the edge of town, 108 Shiva temples of 1788 stand in a long rectangle like a garland. Bardhaman is best known for sitabhog and mihidana, two sweets that were created here and carry a geographical indication tag.
