About Krishnanagar
The seat of Raja Krishnachandra, the eighteenth-century patron of learning under whom Jagaddhatri Puja became a great festival. In the Ghurni quarter, families of artists make clay figures so lifelike they were shown at international exhibitions in the nineteenth century. The town is also the home of two rich milk sweets, sarpuria and sarbhaja.
