A sixth-century monastery and a fifteenth-century fort.
About Mughalmari & Kurumbera
Near Dantan, excavations since 2003 have uncovered a large Buddhist monastery of about the sixth century at Mughalmari, with decorated stucco walls. An hour away at Gaganeshwar, Kurumbera is a great laterite enclosure with pillared corridors on all four sides, built in the fifteenth century under the kings of Odisha. Both are protected monuments standing in open countryside.
