Santragachi Jheel
সাঁতরাগাছি ঝিল
A lake beside a railway station that fills with migratory ducks each winter.
About Santragachi Jheel
This lake next to Santragachi station is surrounded by houses and railway yards, yet every winter thousands of migratory ducks settle on it, lesser whistling ducks above all, with pintails, gadwalls and other visitors. Volunteers clear the water hyacinth into floating islands each autumn so the birds have somewhere to rest.
Why visit
