An old garrison town, now a suburb
Dum Dum was an artillery station of the East India Company; the soft-nosed "dumdum" bullet takes its name from the arsenal here. The cantonment, ordnance factory, jail and airport are all closed to visitors, but Clive House, a very old building on a mound, can be seen from the road.
