New Chinatown
Hakka Chinese families set up tanneries in the marshes of Tangra, and when the tanneries were moved out many turned to restaurants. Indian Chinese food as the country knows it was shaped here. The community also keeps a temple where Kali is offered noodles.

- Chinese New Year is celebrated here with lion dances in the lanes.
- At the Chinese Kali temple, noodles and chop suey are offered as prasad.

Walk Matheswartala Road and the lanes off it past old tannery gates and restaurants to the Chinese Kali temple.

- Chinese Kali Temple: A Kali temple run by Tangra’s Chinese community, with noodles as prasad.

- East Kolkata Wetlands: A Ramsar wetland of fish ponds that cleans the city’s waste water.
