Chintamoni Kar Bird Sanctuary
চিন্তামণি কর পাখিরালয়
Also known as Kayaler Bagan.
A 17-acre patch of dense orchard forest at Narendrapur, full of birds and butterflies.
About Chintamoni Kar Bird Sanctuary
This old mango and fruit orchard, known locally as Kayaler Bagan, was saved from development after a long campaign and declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1982. It was later named after the sculptor Chintamoni Kar, who had fought for it. Narrow paths run under a closed canopy where birdwatchers look for woodpeckers, owls, flycatchers and, in winter, thrushes; the butterflies are just as good.
