The southern gate, with a bird sanctuary beyond
The southern end of the metro and the start of the suburbs. A few kilometres on are two things worth the ride: a small wooded bird sanctuary at Narendrapur, and Boral, the village where Satyajit Ray shot much of Pather Panchali.
Did you know
- Boral’s lanes and ponds stood in for the village of Nischindipur in Pather Panchali (1955).
A short walk to try
Take an auto from Garia to Rathtala for the bird sanctuary; Boral is a separate short ride from Garia.
Getting there
- Metro
- Kavi Nazrul or Kavi Subhash (Blue Line)
- Train
- Garia or New Garia
Places to visit in Garia
- Chintamoni Kar Bird Sanctuary: A 17-acre patch of dense orchard forest at Narendrapur, full of birds and butterflies.
