Maidan Football Grounds

ময়দানের ফুটবল মাঠ

Also known as Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting grounds.

The club grounds where Indian football grew up.

About Maidan Football Grounds

Kolkata is the home of Indian football. Mohun Bagan, founded in 1889, beat the East Yorkshire Regiment barefoot to win the IFA Shield in 1911, a victory remembered as a blow against colonial rule. East Bengal, founded in 1920, became the club of those with roots across the Padma, and their derby is one of the fiercest in Asia. Mohammedan Sporting completes the big three. All have their grounds and club tents on the Maidan, where the Calcutta Football League is played.
