About Kalighat Patuapara

The patuas of Kalighat were the scroll painters whose quick, bold pictures for pilgrims became known as Kalighat painting in the nineteenth century. Their descendants turned to clay images, and Patuapara is now a lane of idol workshops, smaller and less visited than Kumartuli, where Durga, Kali and Saraswati take shape through the year.
