About Mahanayak Uttam Kumar Statue
Uttam Kumar (1926 to 1980) was the leading man of Bengali film for three decades and is still called Mahanayak, the great hero. His statue stands at the Tollygunge crossing, and the metro station beside it carries his name, with its walls decorated with stills from his films. The studios where he worked are a short distance away; they are private and not open to visitors.
