Tipu Sultan Mosque
টিপু সুলতান মসজিদ
A many-domed mosque built by Tipu Sultan’s son in the 1840s.
About Tipu Sultan Mosque
After Tipu Sultan fell at Srirangapatna in 1799 the British moved his family to Calcutta. His youngest son, Prince Ghulam Mohammed, built this mosque at Dharmatala in memory of his father; a twin stands in Tollygunge. Its rows of green domes and slim minarets face the busiest crossing in the city.
