Tea rooms, tombs and Christmas lights
The street that led to a deer park became the city’s dining and music street in the twentieth century. It still has its tea room and bookshop, and at its far end one of the great colonial cemeteries. At Christmas the whole street is lit and closed to traffic for a festival.

- The street is officially Mother Teresa Sarani.
- It was once called Burial Ground Road, after the cemeteries at its eastern end.
A short walk to try
Start at the Chowringhee end, walk past Flurys and the bookshop, and continue about 1.5 km to South Park Street Cemetery.
