Babughat
বাবুঘাট
Also known as Baboo Raj Chandra Das Ghat.
A colonnaded ghat of 1830, built by Rani Rashmoni in her husband’s memory.
About Babughat
Rani Rashmoni built this ghat in 1830 in memory of her husband, Babu Raj Chandra Das, and a Doric pavilion with a pediment stands at its head. It is one of the busiest ghats in the city: priests under umbrellas, masseurs, bathers, people performing rites for their ancestors, and on festival days the immersion of idols. A ferry jetty and a long-distance bus stand are next to it. In recent years an evening Ganga aarti has been held at the neighbouring Baje Kadamtala Ghat.
