Jorasanko Thakur Bari
জোড়াসাঁকো ঠাকুরবাড়ি
Also known as Rabindra Bharati Museum.
The house where Rabindranath Tagore was born and died.
About Jorasanko Thakur Bari
The Tagore family house, built in the eighteenth century, was a centre of the Bengal Renaissance: Dwarkanath’s business, Debendranath’s Brahmo faith, and the writing, music, painting and theatre of Rabindranath and his brothers and nephews all came out of these courtyards. Rabindranath was born here in 1861 and died here in 1941. The house is now the campus museum of Rabindra Bharati University, with the rooms the poet used and galleries on the family and on Bengal’s art.
