About Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House

Swami Vivekananda was born as Narendranath in this house on Gour Mohan Mukherjee Street. The building had fallen into ruin and was divided among many occupants; the Ramakrishna Mission acquired and restored it and opened it in 2004 as a museum and cultural centre, with the birth spot marked as a shrine and galleries on his life.
