Clay, river and the Bagbazar of Ramakrishna
From a rajbari courtyard through the idol-makers’ lanes and north along the river to the houses of Sarada Devi and Sister Nivedita.

- Morning, when the workshops are busiest. August to October is the best season.
- Getting to the start
- Sovabazar Sutanuti metro (Blue Line), then 5 minutes on foot.
The route
- Sovabazar Rajbari The eighteenth-century rajbari at the edge of old Sutanuti.
- Kumartuli Watch idols being built from straw and river clay.
- Kumartuli Ghat Where the clay comes ashore.
- Bagbazar Ghat Follow the river north to the broad steps of Bagbazar.
- Mayer Bari (Udbodhan House) The house where Sarada Devi lived, kept as a shrine.
- Sister Nivedita’s House Sister Nivedita’s lane house and school, now a small museum.
